How does the human mind process computer generated images?
The German Research Foundation has approved funding in the amount of € 8m for the new transregional collaborative research centre “TRR 161”, which explores various issues around the topic of “visualisation of data”. Besides the Universities of Konstanz and Stuttgart, the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics is also involved in the project. Professor Oliver Deussen from the University of Konstanz is the collaborative research centre’s deputy spokesperson.
Centre for Human Data Society
Centre for Human Data Society (CHDS) at the University of Konstanz will establish and extend new ways how humans and society and data science (processes/workflows) interact with each other and shall act with each other. We argue that in order to realize the full human-centered potential of Data Science research, we need to gain a deeper understanding of Human-Society-Data Science-Interactions. We seek to conduct research, and provide the necessary and desired autonomy (or control), agency (or dependability), and accountability (or responsibility) of human participants in these interactions.
A new generation of geographical information systems
BigGIS will help develop and research a new generation of geographical information systems that support decision making in multiple scenarios which require processing of large and heterogeneous data sets. Application areas include, for instance, “disaster control”, “environment” as well as “smart city and health”. Professor Daniel Keim is the University of Konstanz’s project partner.
Can mobile technology incrase health-conscious behaviour?
SMARTACT is an interdisciplinary joint research project that uses mobile technologies to develop new tools for increasing health-conscious behaviour on a day-to-day basis. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Professor Harald Reiterer's working group is part of SMARTACT.
